2016 auditions have now concluded. Please check back in late fall 2016 for updates regarding our 2017 casting season.
What should I expect on the day of my audition in Auburn?
Upon arrival please check in with our registration desk. There is a designated holding room where you can prepare for your audition. These are long days. You may be asked to return later in the day to dance, sing, and/or read. Please bring water, dance clothes, and all dance shoes. And of course, please bring your full music book and a pic/resume stapled together. We ensure that the audition process is as stress-free as possible and foster an environment of encouragement and fun.
When is your casting process complete and when are people notified of employment?
The Festival’s casting process lasts through late March. In total, we will see over 4,000 auditionees. The process is lengthy and comprehensive and as such, offers typically go out the third week in March. Notification can continue through early April and is a rolling process. Given the volume of talent, we are only able to notify candidates with job offers.
MGR Youth Theatre’s casting process is completed by the end of May. Actors who are offered a contract will be notified by then.
Are there any other audition opportunities nearby?
Do you have housing, and is it provided?
Yes, we provide housing for all of our out-of-town employees.
Do you pay your actors? Do the ensemble members, as well as the principals, receive pay?
We are a professional theatre and as such, everyone who is hired to work for the company is compensated. The only exceptions are internships — they are customized individually or with a higher education institution.
When I audition, will I be considered for multiple shows throughout the season, or just one?
All roles for all shows are up for consideration. Be terrific and let us figure out where you can shine.
How long is the rehearsal process and where do the rehearsals take place?
Our shows rehearse for 13 days, from first day of rehearsal to opening night. Rehearsals take place in various studios at our administrative offices, sometimes at satellite studio locations as well as at the various venues.
Are any equity contracts available?
Yes. We are an equity theatre and we operate under a Letter of Agreement (LOA) referenced to the COST contract. Our equity contracts provide for collectively bargained terms including salary, health benefits, pension, transportation, housing and more.
