Merry-Go-Round Playhouse

Words and Music by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross. Book by George Abbott and Douglass Wallop. Based on the novel by Douglass Wallop, “The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant."

A diehard Washington Senators fan sells his soul to the devil so his favorite team can beat the hated Yankees and win the pennant. As his alter ego, the gifted ball player navigates tricky waters and learns what’s most important in life. With classic hits such as “Ya Gotta Have Heart,” “Shoeless Joe from Hannibal Mo,” and “Whatever Lola Wants,” this sporty musical comedy hits it out of the park!

Meet the Cast


Banji Aborisade (Ensemble) is a Musical Theatre major at Syracuse University from Atlanta Georgia. Past credits include: Sunday in the Park with George, Christmas Carol, Seussical, and Merrily we Roll Along.


Leslie Becker (Meg Boyd) MGR debut! Broadway and National tour credits include Wicked, Bonnie & Clyde, Anything Goes, Cinderella, Nine, Show Boat and Beauty and the Beast. Regionally she has starred in over 100 productions including Dolly in Hello, Dolly, Anna in The King and I, Marmee in Little Women, Arlene in Baby, Dorothy in 42nd Street, and others. Also a writer, her musical A Proper Place was recently selected for Goodspeed's New Musicals Festival and her book "The Organized Actor®" has remained a best seller for 20 years. www.LeslieBecker.com


Tara Carbone (Ensemble, u/s Lola) is thrilled to be a part of Damn Yankees! Tara was recently seen in The Music Man at the John W. Engeman Theater (Ensemble/Asst. Dance Captain)! Other credits include the national tour of How the Grinch Stole Christmas and the title role in Angelina Ballerina the Very Merry Holiday Musical! Film: ABC Upfront. Ned Donovan (Ensemble, u/s Van Buren) is elated to return to Merry-Go-Round for Damn Yankees! Previous MGR: My Fair Lady. New York: Angel on my Shoulder (MITF), Renewal (Write Act Rep) Regional: Fireside, Maine State, Theater at Monmouth, Ithaca Shakespeare. Film: Night of the Living Deb. Tom Flagg (Benny Van Buren) began his career with famed producer John Kenley, working such luminaries as Ethel Merman, Jane Powell, Van Johnson, and Paul Lynde. He’s spent much of his career on Broadway, in such hits as The Will Rogers Follies, How To Succeed in Business…, Oklahoma, Shenandoah, (and a few misses) and Off-Broadway in Episode 26, Roadside, Zazou, Shadowlands, and the longest running musical in history, The Fantasticks. A 7th Degree Black Belt in Karate, Sensei Flagg proudly trains U.S. Marine and Navy personnel in Martial Arts.


Rasheem Ford (Ensemble) is ecstatic to be returning to MGR Playhouse! He is a graduate from SUNY Cortland with his B.A in Musical Theater. His favorite credits include: Sunfish: A New Musical (International tour), Spring Awakening (Melchior), Violet (Flick) and Paul in Kiss Me Kate (The Mac-Haydn Theatre Company). He would like to give special thanks to Ed, Brett, David, and Corinne for giving him this wonderful opportunity, and much love to his family and friends for their never-ending love and support. Bob Frame (Male Cover) has worked for the MGR since he was theatre major at SUNY Oswego. He mostly designs Lights but takes roles when needed. At MGR Bob has played Pap Finn in Big River, McKeon in 1776, Gangster 2 in Kiss me, Kate (twice!) and as Kenny in last summer’s world premiere production of Neurosis. His day job is Director of Theatre Operations at Cayuga Community College. Bob is still trying to come to grips with the fact that all three of his daughters are working for the MTF this season!


Kristen Gehling (Gloria Thorpe) You may recognize Kristen from last year's Trailer Park as Lin or 2010's Promises, Promises as Miss Olson. She returns after a successful run of the new Off-Broadway play Little Wars. Utmost gratitude to Brett, Ed, and the entire MGR staff for making every show feel like home. Hugs to David, Corinne, and Scott for their faith and generosity of spirit. As always, LOVE to husband Tom (onstage with her!), family near and far, friends in arms and laughter. For Nick, who has more HEART than any person I know.


Robb Gibbs (Ensemble) is thrilled to be making his Merry-Go-Round Playhouse debut. Robb has been seen in Off-Broadway's Living in a Musical as Billy. He has also been seen around the country and in Canada in productions of George M!, Singin' In the Rain, Hello, Dolly!, How to Succeed..., Chicago, A Fireside Christmas, Rocket Man, Jersey Nights, as well as two dance companies in NYC. Thanks to Mom, Kay, and Ms. Suzanne for your support and love. All my love and devotion to Joey.


Jeannie Hines-Clinton (Sister, u/s Meg) is thrilled to be back at the FLMTF and performing with her MGR family. Last seen in last year's production of My Fair Lady, is a sought out performer in the Rochester area and performed with Tony award winner Lea Solonga, along with other Broadway performers, Deedee Magno Hall, Jose Llana, Orville Mendoza and Joan Almedilla. Jeannie is a Theatre/Music teacher at Allendale Columbia School in Rochester, NY She is a proud Actor's Equity Membership Candidate. Jeannie is a proud wife, happy mother of her 8 year old, Andrew. Thanks to Mike, Andy, my parents, and friends for all of your support!


Troy Hussmann (Ensemble) is thrilled to be performing at The Merry-Go-Round Playhouse. National Tour: Radio City Christmas Spectacular Arena Tour. Regional: The Old Globe, Hudson Theater, Odyssey Theater, Florida Rep. He is about to enter his junior year as a Musical Theater Major at Syracuse University, where last year he played a Wickersham Brother in Seussical and Hanschen in Spring Awakening. In the fall, he is looking forward to playing Link Larkin in the Syracuse Stage/ SU Drama co-production of Hairspray.


Joey Kipp (Ensemble) was born in Brazil and raised in Mountain. View, CA. Marymount Manhattan College (BA Biology, Dance). Named “One of Time Out NY’s Favorite Hot Dancers of 2012.” Merce Cunningham scholarship student. Companies/Choreographers: Robert Battle, Sean Curran Company, Merce Cunningham, Gallim Dance, Miguel Gutierrez, Jody Oberfeleder Dance Projects, and, luciana achugar. WOW: THE OPERA (Rob Pilatus/Milli Vanilli). He is truly honored to be a part of this production. Thanks to the creative team, friends/teachers, and mostly Mom and Maria for endless support!


Matthew Aaron Liotine (Ensemble) graduated from LaGuardia High School with an endorsement in Voice and Dance. He is currently a BFA Musical Theater major at Montclair State University. Matthew was seen last summer at The Mac-Haydn Theater as Dermah, La Cage Aux Folles, Jean Prouvaire in Les Miserables, and many more. His favorite roles at MSU include Bobby in A Chorus Line, and being in the ensemble of Andrew Lippas: The Wild Party. Matthew is very excited to join the cast of Damn Yankees at the MGR Playhouse.


Kate Marilley (Lola) is thrilled to return to MGR after appearing here as Sheila in A Chorus Line in 2009! Favorite shows/roles include: Broadway/1st national tour of Billy Elliot (Mum understudy), White Christmas (Judy Haynes), 42nd Street (Peggy Sawyer), On the Town (Ivy Smith), Singin' in the Rain (Kathy Selden), Something's Afoot (Lettie), Seven Brides... (Ruth, Milly u/s), Silk Stockings (Ninotchka), and more! BFA in Drama from Carnegie Mellon. Much love to her parents and husband Marcellus, and a huge thank you to MGR for this wonderful opportunity!


Bill Nolte (Joe Boyd) Recent: Tony/Most Happy Fella (Connecticut Critics Circle AWARD WINNER/Best Leading Actor in a Musical/2013-14)/Goodspeed Opera (also Don Quixote/Man of La Mancha 2000, Beadle Bamford/Sweeney Todd 1996), Tevye/Fiddler on the Roof/Cape Fear Regional Theatre and Westchester Broadway Theatre, Jacob, Potiphar, Baker/Joseph…Dreamcoat/Ogunquit Playhouse, Professor Marvel, Guard, Wizard/Wizard of Oz/Sacramento Music Circus, Fuzz/(American Premiere) Harmony, Kansas/San Diego's LGBT Diversionary Theatre. Owen Pelesh (Henry, Ensemble, u/s Joe Hardy) is very happy to make his Merry-Go-Round debut. Credits include: Walnut Street Theatre, Riverside Theater, Arrow Rock Lyceum, Act II Playhouse, Montgomery Theater, Kimmel Center, and Mauckingbird Theatre Co. Upcoming: 9 to 5 and Mary Poppins at the Walnut Street Theatre. Owen is a graduate of Temple University in Philadelphia; BA Theater, Concentration in Musical Theater.


Sarah Primmer (Doris/Ensemble) is thrilled join the cast of Damn Yankees! National Tour Credit: Beauty and the Beast (Ensemble, u/s Potts/Wardrobe). Favorite Regional/Collegiate Credits: Kiss Me Kate (Lilli Vanessi); Carousel (Carrie Pipperidge); Urinetown: The Musical (Penelope Pennywise). She was also a member of the prestigious Ensign-Darling Vocal Fellowship and a soloist with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. BA: Muhlenberg College. Audra Qualley (Ensemble, u/s Gloria) is thrilled to make her MGR debut! A Pittsburgh native, and proud 2013 graduate of Point Park University, Audra now lives in New York City to pursue her acting career! Favorite credits include: I Love a Piano (Ginger), Lend Me a Tenor (Maggie), Twelfth Night (Maria), and M33 (Flo Marconi, World Premiere). Many thanks to Brett for this opportunity, our team behind the table, and especially to my parents- for their miles and miles and miles of heart. Enjoy the show!


Thomas Schario (Rocky, Comissioner, u/s Applegate) is very excited to be appearing as Rocky in Damn Yankees, his 3rd merry go round production. He has been seen as the stage manager in Kiss Me Kate, and most recently as Delbert in The Great American Trailer Park Musical. After Damn Yankees, Thomas will be seen as Chief Berry in the 1st National Tour of Nice Work if You Can Get It. A huge thank you to my family who keeps giving me nothing but support and to my glorious wife Kristen who gives me so much support and love. I would be lost without you!


Walter E. Tucker (Sohovik, u/s Rocky) is blessed to be making his Merry-Go-Round Playhouse debut. Off-Broadway: The Taming of the Shrew, National Tours: Beauty and the Beast, Regional Theatre: In the Heights, Elf, Pinocchio and 365 Days/ 365 Plays. Walter thanks his family, friends and above all God.


Stephen Valenti (Ensemble, u/s Joe Boyd) was Ezekial Foster in White Christmas and Abner Dillon in 42nd Street at Long Island’s Engeman Theater. In Fiddler he appeared as Lazar Wolf at the Ogunquit Playhouse with Eddie Mekka and Sally Struthers, and as Avrum at the Westchester Broadway Theatre. Steve is a Professor of Accounting and Finance at New York University, manages his own CPA firm, and is a nationally recognized speaker on taxes, estate and financial planning. Love to my wife Mary Lou and daughters Laura and Diana.


Richard B. Watson (Applegate) was last seen at MGR as Zach in A Chorus Line. He was born and raised in Wilmington, NC. Richard lives in New York City. Most recently closed the roles of Squeers and Hawk in The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickelby at Orlando Shakespeare, and originated the role of Long John Silver in the world premiere of Treasure Island, A New Musical at Arkansas Rep. Richard was Henry Higgins with Kate Baldwin in My Fair Lady at Sacramento Music Circus and Sherlock in Sherlock Holmes & the West End Horror at the Asolo and Pioneer theaters. NYC: The Devil’s Disciple at Irish Rep and Serendib at Ensemble Studio Theater. Film/TV: PS, I Love You; "Law & Order CI"; "Delocated"; "Onion Sports Network"; Art=(Love)²; and a pilot, "Powerless", for FX. Richard played George in Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf? and is an inaugural company member at American Stage Theater In St. Petersburg, FL where he won the first ever Jeff Norton Award for "Best Actor in a Leading Role." He was awarded his MFA from the Academy for Classical Acting at the George Washington University / Shakespeare Theatre Company. Proud union member of Actors Equity Association and SAG-AFTRA.


Lzay Whalen (Female Cover) is pumped to be working with this incredible MGR team. You can usually find Lzay working with the unbelievable Merry-Go-Round Youth Theatre as the School Communications/Outreach, or perhaps in the Syracuse area rocking out with Rarely Done Productions. Previous credits include Company (Marta), Spelling Bee (Rona) and Rocky Horror (Magenta). Thank you so much to her family and friends for their undying support and love.


Aaron Young (Joe Hardy) is happily returning to the MGR Playhouse where he earned his very first professional job (2003’s Footloose). Since then he has toured the U.S. in Cabaret and appeared in theatres across the country including the Goodspeed Opera House, Pittsburgh CLO, 5th Ave. Theatre, North Carolina Theatre, and Ordway Center. Favorite roles include Joseph in Joseph…Dreamcoat, The Prince in Cinderella, John Truitt in Meet Me in St. Louis, and several productions as Rolf in The Sound of Music. Aaron also toured Japan as a featured soloist with the Tokyo Philharmonic. B.A. in Musical Theatre from UNCO. Thanks to Ed, Brett, and the creative staff for bringing him back to play a dream role!
